Experience
I have worked as a facilitator, trainer and coach since 2003, following the publication of 'Getting on Brilliantly'. Before that I had a hugely enjoyable career in education - see below for details of my employment history and public appointments.
Employment History
1989-03 Principal Tower Hamlets College
In 1989 I was appointed to create a new college for Tower Hamlets, East London from the annexes of neighbouring colleges. The circumstances were challenging. We inherited 3 near derelict buildings, 100 demoralised staff and hardly any students. The team I led:
-
Developed and led a strong and committed staff
-
Encouraged an ethos based on shared values and focused on results
-
Merged with two other organisations
-
Saw student numbers grow from less than 1000 to over 8000 and achievements exceed
national averages
-
Directed an imaginative £40m building programme to time and budget
-
Managed a £30m turnover consistently rated financial health status “A”
-
Moved the college from the bottom of the education league table to a nationally recognised ‘Beacon’ with above average results.
