Getting on Brilliantly 1

Leading and Facilitating Groups and Teams

  • How can we make sure all our meetings are productive, creative and enjoyable?

  • What has to happen to make our staff and our customers feel they have a real stake in the business?

  • How can we encourage departments to work together?

This one-day course explores answers to these questions and to many more. The day is spent considering how to use valuable group and team meetings to bring out the very best in people. Participants discuss significant management issues whilst trying out innovative group leadership methods. These include Knowledge Café, an alternative way to share information, and the Open Space process that brings new energy and commitment to agendas.

What will you get out of the course?

This day will be of interest to managers who lead teams, run meetings and want to introduce more creativity and energy into their day-to-day work. The day is experiential and participations can expect to:

  • Try out and discuss ways of leading groups and meetings used in the most creative and innovative of organisations

  • Discuss critical leadership and management issues

  • Experience different ways of facilitating and working in groups, using methods

  • that bring out the best in everyone and achieve results

Getting on Brilliantly 1 has been attended by over 1000 people

92% of whom rated it 'excellent' or 'very useful'.

Getting on Brilliantly 2

Effective Line Management

  • How can we make sure we select the right person for the right job?

  • What do we need to do to get the best out of every individual at work?

  • How can we balance the competing demands on our time?

  • How does our own behaviour need to change to lead by example?

Getting on Brilliantly 2 considers these and other issues involved in one-to-one line management from recruitment to exit interview. Participants are invited to challenge some received wisdom and think of different ways to encourage, value, develop and confront colleagues.

The course is highly participative and delegates leave with ideas to use straight away.

What will you get out of the course?

This day has proved useful to large numbers of line managers. During the day we:

  • Work on old and innovative ways to get the best out of each individual

  • Think about how to expedite rather than protract difficulties

  • Reflect on how best to give and receive criticism

  • Consider how people in the wrong job can leave with dignity

I developed Getting on Brilliantly 2 four years ago and it has now overtaken the first course in popularity and satisfaction.
