Open Space is a way of organising a meeting or conference so there is a maximum participation, self-management, energy, and focus.  It was designed by Harrison Owen and is used around the world by private, public and voluntary organisations for organisational development and consultation purposes.   Whatever the number of participants or time available, an Open Space meeting will allow everyone to work on the issues that they care about most, and for which they will take responsibility in the future.

Knowledge Cafe is a simple but very effective way of sharing information, developing understanding, and building plans. Participants learn about issues from experts and from each other.

Appreciative Inquiry  is based on the assumption that in every organisation, something works well, or has worked well in the past.
When organisations use this approach for planning they start by thinking about their best experience rather than their problems.  The process uses questioning to reveal core strengths and moves on to discuss future opportunities and aspirations.  On the basis of this information, participants are then in a position to develop innovative plans for the future.
